What do I do if I have an accident?

Legally, you are obliged to stop if you are involved in an accident. You should always get witnesses' details once you are sure that they actually saw the accident. Try and gather evidence by drawing a rough sketch-map or if possible take a photograph.

Always try to stay calm and Don't Panic. If someone has been injured, call and ambulance immediately.

When calling 999 in an emergency, the operators will need to know the following :

  • Your location
  • The severity of the accident
  • Details of any casualties
  • If there is any spilt fuel, gas, chemicals.

If you have a reflective triangle, place it 200 meters behind the accident to inform approaching traffic of the incident.
