Hi,

The Advanced Driving we do, is on road training and the definition of Advanced Driving is given below:

What is Advanced Driving?
'Advanced Driving is the ability to control the position and speed of the vehicle safely, systematically and smoothly, using road and traffic conditions to progress unobtrusively with skill and responsibility.

This skill requires a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of driving competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning. This must be co-ordinated with good handling skills.

The vehicle should be at the right place on the road at the right time, travelling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and can always be stopped safely on its own side of the road in the distance that can be seen to be clear.' (DSA, ROADA, IAM 1997)

Why should you be interested?
You will benefit by further developing your existing driving style and ability. The Advanced Driving Course will concentrate on the core defensive driving principles with particular emphasis on raising your awareness and anticipation.

As there is no such thing as the perfect driver you will without doubt become a better and safer driver with the added bonus of becoming more relaxed and less stressed when driving, reducing your fuel bill and vehicle running costs. You may even wish to consider taking the advanced driving test to gain recognition for your skills.

I hope this answers your question.

Brian

the snow's not going to last that long that you'll need extra training in it

Hi,

Interestingly most of our instructors continued their lessons in the snow and ice conditions and all of our under-age driving sessions did take place ok and it was good experience for all concerned.

It was ideal as we don't get the weather like that lasting very long normally.

One of our instructors had a 3 week intensive course and the young lad hadn't driven on anything but snow and icy conditions but unfortunately the DSA cancelled the test and it was rescheduled. In fact Hamilton and Airdrie test centres didn't conduct tests for approx 4 weeks.

Another instructor had a Pass Plus conducted in the one day and had white out conditions with the snow and the young girl driving got to experience the car with and without traction control and ESP - Nice one!

Also had a mother of one of our students book in for the under age venue to get some training for driving in the snow just as you have asked and she thoroughly enjoyed it.
