Learning to driveWe will teach you the driving skills you need for life, making you a much safer and more competent driver. “Drive and Survive” is our motto, and is as much to do with driver attitude as skill. It is important to learn safe driving practice and good defensive skills from the beginning of your driving career, because bad habits are hard to break. At Caledonian Learner Driver Training we have created a structured course that is tailored to suit your needs, whether you are driving a car for the first time, or you want a refresher or advanced driving course. We’ll be with you all the way, from start to finish: the same instructor, no unexpected swapping, and one-to-one lessons guaranteed. |

We believe that Caledonian Learner Driver Training is unique in Scotland due to the fact that we are a multi-car school based here, with instructors trained here and mostly by me, the proprietor. Ours is one of the largest independent driving schools in Scotland.
Choose your instructor with confidence. I did – each and every one of them.

Driving instructor training
If you take pride in your driving and you are good with people, you could train to become a driving instructor.

Caledonian Learner Driver Training is an ORDIT qualified training establishment. Read on to learn about our instructor training, and if you are interested, then submit an application to us.
The Caledonian Driving Instructor Training Course is a top quality, fully accredited product which has been developed by highly qualified and experienced ADI Trainers who are also ORDIT registered. (The Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers – run by the DSA)
All the materials – study manuals and reference books, CD-ROMs and DVDs – are endorsed by either or both the Driving Standards Agency and The Driving Instructors Association. These organisations lead our profession and set the strict standards of training and subsequent operation of all Approved Driving Instructors.
The qualifying Examination to become a DSA Approved Driving Instructor is split into three parts. We refer to them as Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. Each must be passed before you can move onto the next. We concentrate on each Part before training on the next, although we often overlap a couple of hours. This way, as you study Theory and Hazard Perception, you will have a Driving assessment (for Part 2) that may identify habits or techniques that you can work on in the meantime – as you drive in your daily life.
Our Training Course is structured and tailored to fit around your commitments to work and family life. The Course can be delivered in various areas around Scotland. It runs at your pace, locally. It is a complete package from start to finish and normally takes between 6 and 9 months to complete, although it can be completed in less time, depending on your available time. We will keep up with you. This is your new career – we will not rush or skimp – after all you will be working with us later (if you accept our genuine Career Opportunity). The Highway Code is essential reading for everyone. Its rules apply to all road users: drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians as well as horse riders.

Pass Plus is a training scheme for new drivers. It comprises six practical modules that cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. Once you complete the course, you become eligible for discounts with participating insurance companies.
Get In Lane was developed by Road Safety Scotland and has a lot of helpful information for learner drivers and drivers who have recently passed the test.
The Driving Standards Agency regulates all Approved Driving Instructors, sets standards for the driving test, and operates all Driving Test Centres. The web site gives statistics such as the current national pass rate for the driving test, and the number of hours tuition typically needed for a new driver to reach the standard required by the driving test. We believe the number of hours quoted by the DSA to be rather high, but the figure is an average and with our tuition, we would expect most learners to achieve the standard sooner.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency issues all provisional and full driving licences for the United Kingdom. The Agency is also responsible for vehicle registrations.
